Good news is good news: The stock market correctly viewed the good jobs data as good news — no matter what it means for the timing of the first interest rate cut from the Federal Reserve. Those concerns were the catalyst that caused oil to spike late Thursday and the stock market to spiral. Costco and TJX should be holding up better because they both are market share gainers that offer great value to their customers. "We do not believe Tesla will get credit as an AI company as long as core auto earnings are being revised down," wrote widely-followed Tesla bull Adam Jonas. The $100 bear case suggests that Tesla could fall more than 40% from Wednesday's close. These issues could hamstring Tesla near term, but Jonas expects deliveries to find a bottom in the second quarter. In fact, he views Tesla as a combination of an auto, energy, AI and robotics stock, noting that its auto business represents only 20% of Morgan Stanley's $310 price target valuation. The $310 price target, down from a previous $320, suggests that Tesla stands to gain 84% from Wednesday's close over the next 12 months.

CNN —More than 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Jon Bon Jovi, The Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry, Miranda Lambert and more, are speaking out against artificial intelligence-related threats in the music industry. The letter highlights AI threats including deepfakes and voice cloning, as well as “irresponsible uses of AI” such as the using AI sound to diminish royalty payments to artists and the use of musical works by AI developers without permission to train and produce AI copycats. “Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders.”The letter urges digital music platforms and services to pledge to protect artist. “We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem,” the letter says. In a statement, the executive director of the ARA, Jen Jacobsen, said the threats of artificial intelligence are worsening already-tough working conditions for artists.

Wall Street firms know the pains of having to satisfy regulators, and with advancements in artificial intelligence, there's a whole new level of scrutiny and complexity. It involves quality-and-assurance teams who test, verify, validate, and challenge the AI models before they go into production and report issues back to the engineering team to fix. In some cases, banks' technology teams are spending at least half their time documenting models for compliance, Jonas Jacobi, cofounder of fintech startup ValidMind, told Business Insider. AI models are often compared to a "black box" because it can be difficult to understand their decision-making or how the models arrive at their results. With the new injection of capital, ValidMind will build more features, like one aimed at automating the risk management of third-party vendor solutions.

President Joe Biden speaks at the United Auto Workers political convention at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C., Jan. 24, 2024. The new Environmental Protection Agency rules released Wednesday aim to cut tailpipe emissions by 49% between model years 2027 and 2032. The EPA set a target for EVs to make up at least 35% of new vehicle sales by 2032. The EPA's new strategy for cutting tailpipe emissions doesn't focus only on EVs. The EPA's percentage targets for EV adoption are not mandates but expectations for how automakers could meet the emissions regulations.

CNN —A Women’s Super League (WSL) clash between Chelsea and Arsenal on Friday was delayed by half an hour after the Gunners were forced to change their socks because they were the same color as those worn by Chelsea. Arsenal, as the away team, was eventually forced to source black socks from Chelsea’s merchandise store and cover the branding with tape. Once the game began, Chelsea consolidated its spot as the league leader with a 3-1 victory over third-placed Arsenal in front of the Blues’ biggest ever crowd at Stamford Bridge for a women’s soccer game. Chelsea eventually won 3-1 to edge ahead in the Women's Super League title race. Chelsea manager Emma Hayes praised her team’s dominant performance afterwards but told broadcaster Sky Sports that she was “gutted” for Arsenal’s kit man.

Tesla could lose money in the coming quarters as price cuts fail to boost demand for its electric vehicles in the face of strong competition from hybrid cars, according to Morgan Stanley. Analyst Adam Jonas trimmed the investment bank's stock price target for Tesla by 7% to $320 from $345 while maintaining an overweight rating. This is a problem because hybrid vehicles are enjoying a renaissance in the U.S. and emerging as a real competitor to electric vehicles, Jonas wrote. Jonas remains bullish on Tesla long-term because the company is the most technically advanced car company in the world. Morgan Stanley's valuation of Tesla's auto business, at $68 per share, represents just 21% of the investment bank's overall price target of $320.

In 2024, most artists now need to get directly involved in creating social content in some form, said 10 music marketers who spoke to BI about their strategies. AdvertisementTo make influencer campaigns work better, music marketers ask artists to post original content first, creating organic interest in a song that creators can then push forward with additional videos. JOAN JONAS, 87, perched on a stool in a room behind the scenes at MoMA, was immediately recognizable as the artist she had been — compact, tense, intense — when she emerged as a figure in New York’s downtown scene in the late 1960s. In an essay published many years later, the composer Alvin Curran recalled Jonas’s stature in that environment: “On the streets, children cry out, ‘Here comes Joan Jonas,’” he wrote, adding that some even wanted to be what she was when they grew up: a performance artist. This month, she’s finally receiving a hometown retrospective at MoMA, a tribute on a scale she’s already had in cities such as Milan, London and Munich. “You’re coming, right?” said Jonas, speaking into a cellphone at the museum in late December. It was important to her that he, and many others in her world, see this collection of her work, its totality and its range.
